National mental health: the cost is Did you know that the Journal of General Internal Medicine is the official journal of the Society of General Internal Medicine. It promotes improved patient care, research, and education in primary care, general internal medicine,. We hope the next President will meet America’s profound obligation to support people with behavioral health challenges leading to all being able to achieve emotional ‘wellbeing’ and acceptance in mainstream society. So cost is depending on realistic estimates of the scale of needed expansion. Did you know that the benefit in improved physical and mental health, longevity, and productivity going to be important the cost in the long period, more going to be required if you want to be phased in over time. Particularly important are appropriate residential settings, mobile services, integration of physical and behavioral health care, improved care for people with Alzheimer’s and identical dementias, and support for family members, who provide 80percent of the care for older adults with disabilities.
For older adults, the critical need is to build a generationally competent behavioral health system with an emphasis on helping older adults to live in the community, despite physical and mental disabilities.
For minority populations the critical need is to build a culturally competent behavioral health system.
With that said, this includes culturally sensitive practice, efforts to address lingering racism and discrimination, and inclusion of more minorities as treatment providers, managers, planners, and policy makers. Of course over the coming decades there going to be two major demographic shifts in the United States. Improving the mental health and substance abuse systems is a vital need in today’s society and gonna be a priority item on the next President’s agenda for immediate action. For far so this 10point agenda for policy reform is challenging and complex.
