Canadians from all walks of life have approached me sharing the stories and thanking me for being an important component of this, since I 1-st joined Bell in September 2010 to announce toBell we need to Talk campaign.
It is now tosecond year of this campaign, and what I continue to hear is how vital it’s to good amount of Canadians. The response is incredible and I am excited to see how toconversation about mental soundness of body will continue to grow and mental illness happen to be destigmatized. Among to most startling statistics that we mostly hear is that one in 5 Canadians will experience a mental illness at some point in the lives. With all that said. That doesn’t involve toimpact on housewifery and chums who watch and worry, very frequently feeling helpless, as a respected one struggles.
Most individuals look for it impossible to see that on toheels of winning my 1st 2 Olympic medals at toAtlanta Summer Games in 1996, I descended to a depression. For over 2 years, I fought depression through todarkest weeks of my life, unable to compete, unable to smile. Of course I was lucky., without a doubt, I was surrounded with the help of all toloving support and professional guidance of my household, chums, coaches and fellow athletes, as an athlete.
I’ve been able to manage and prevent depression from dragging me down to darkness once more, as long as I continue to reap torewards of this supportive environment.
When I speak from experience, it is not simply my own that I refer to. Another question is. How many individuals I understand who have struggled and continue to move though quicksand and hopelessness on an everyday? This pains me inside. The Bell we shall Talk campaign has proven that it’s also tojoy that gets us but tostruggle. And been on toreceiving end of how individuals connect to this sharing, I can say in all honesty that there is no difference betwixt totwo, as long as I had shared all ends of my spectrum now. Of course, since, finally, we are all human beings who experience highs and lows, struggle and bliss.
To working to erase tostigma, there’re voices in tosilence. Bell has stepped forward to lead toconversation about mental everyday’s health and I feel privileged that they’ve invited me to be topublic face of Bell we must Talk. On top of that, joining me this year to support grow toconversation in Quebec are musician Stefie Shock and comedian Michel Mpambara. As campaign element that is unfolding across tocountry, guys will be encouraged to spread toword about mental general wellbeing. On tosecond annual Bell let us Talk month on Wednesday February 8, Bell will contribute 5 cents for every text message sent and every long distance call made with the help of Bell customers to mental soundness of body related initiatives across tocountry. Did you hear about something like this before? This is usually simply tostart.
