That said, this article sounded a lot like telling a kid who is playing with matches not to burn himself. Just not very good advice. Chris Crowley and Henry Lodge are the authors of the Younger Next Year series of ‘best selling’ books and seminars that have changed millions of lives by sharing the secrets to living longer, stronger, and healthier. Each organisation should strive to foster an inclusive environment.
Sometimes that involves the business being flexible and making accommodations, or individuals taking the time to listen to colleagues.
Keeping lines of communication open is a great start, no organisation is perfect. For sake of example, one my medication sideeffect is shortterm memory problems, and sentences can come out muddled if I’m tired or stressed. However, being aware of my triggers means I’ve put loads of measures in place to ensure I strike the right balance between looking after my mental health and being p colleague I can.
My mental health experiences have completely changed the way I approach working life.
I had been struggling with depression and anxiety and couldn’t see the situation improving unless I ok some amount of time to focus on getting better.
Actually a year ago I decided to temporarily step down from my position as colleague services and business management director at Lloyds Banking Group. My own experiences have made me aware that you can’t always tell when someone is struggling, as a line manager myself. I’m almost sure I know that others aren’t so lucky, I’m grateful to was given the space to explore this. I try to be as open and approachable as I can. Everyone is different, and what works for me is not necessarily appropriate for somebody else with identical condition. It doesn’t have to be, mental health will see these episodes as setbacks, and in many ways they are. During this time I was also diagnosed with bipolar affective disorder. A well-known fact that is. Most important is the group’s inclusive culture. Including dedicated intranet pages and a support number for all colleagues, lloyds Banking Group supports this with a set of broader initiatives events and mentoring schemes. Key example of that’s my relationship with Lloyds Banking Group. Therefore this shift has come because of the support and time I received from the group. I know now that it wants me to perform at my best and feel healthy. Seriously. Understanding that so that’s a shared goal and that I can take as well as give is a huge help in managing my condition.
