What are some of the social determinants of health? Things didn’t change in college either, and I carried on bunking a number of my classes being that I was so ashamed of myself.

When others of my age were enjoying partying and playing outdoor sports, I spent all my time indoors.

My weight made me another person. I spent all my growing years being obese. I had decided in my mind that I will die fat, my father often motivated me to cut down the excessive fat and lured me with incentives. Cutting down the redundant weight excessive cutting down the excessive slimming working out seemed impossible. I withdrew from everything and everyone. My confidence went for a dip and I became a complete introvert. Social determinants of health are economic and social conditions that influence the health of people and communities.

What are some of the social determinants of health? Factors associated with health outcomes include.

These conditions are shaped by the quantity of money, power, and resources that people have, all of which are influenced by policy choices.

Social determinants of health affect factors that are about health outcomes. Scientists generally recognize five health determinants of a population. Needless to say, determinants of health are factors that contribute to a person’s current state of health. These factors might be biological, socioeconomic, psychosocial, behavioral, or social in nature. With all that said… Scientists do not know the precise contributions of every determinant at this time. Other factors that could have been included are culture, social status, and healthy child development. Figure 1 represents rough estimates of how much every of the five determinants contributes to the health of a population.

What are some of the social determinants of health? In theory, genes, biology, and health behaviors gether account for about 25 of population health, as the figure shows.

More specifically, social determinants of health refer to the set of factors that contribute to the social patterning of health, disease, and illness.

These social determinants of health also interact with and influence individual behaviors as well. Social determinants of health represent the remaining three social categories environment, physical environment/total ecology, and health services/medical care. World Health Organization created the Commission on Social Determinants of Health to address social determinants of health. Accordingly the Commission uses the following three concepts to guide its work in eliminating health inequities for local communities and nations and throughout the world. Did you know that the commission created the conceptual framework below that describes relationships among individual and structural variables. You should take this seriously. Framework provides a point from which researchers can take action, similar to creating targeted interventions, on social determinants of health.

Then the framework represents relationships among variables that are depending on scientific studies or substantial evidence.

Health equity is when everyone has the opportunity to ‘attain their full health potential’ and nobody is ‘disadvantaged from achieving this potential because of their social position and similar socially determined circumstance’.

Health organizations, institutions, and education programs are encouraged to look beyond behavioral factors and address underlying factors associated with social determinants of health. Health equity has also been defined as the absence of systematic disparities in health between and within social groups that have different levels of underlying social privileges or disadvantages that is, different positions in a social hierarchy. Addressing social determinants of health is a primary approach to achieving health equity. Then the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is committed to achieving improvements in people’s lives by reducing health inequities.
