Menthol therapy is a homeopathic treatment used for chronic and occasional coughs, runny nose, flu-like symptoms and earaches. It is considered to be very effective for treating the colds and coughs. This treatment is available in capsule form. It has a distinctive odor, which is pleasant and has anesthetic action. This remedy is used for children, adults and babies.

Menthol is commonly found as an ingredient in toothpaste. It has a cooling effect and may relieve pain, inflammation and sore throat, as well as promote perspiration. Menthol is used for a variety of conditions where mucus membranes are affected. Some of the conditions it may be used for include:

Treating coughs. It is usually prescribed to people with sore throats and frequent soreness. It is also used to reduce the quantity of mucus in the lungs. This remedy is also useful in reducing the quantity of mucus in the throat and thus preventing a runny nose. It also reduces the amount of acid in the stomach, thereby reducing acid reflux.

Treating chest infections. It is usually prescribed to people with chronic chest infections. This treatment helps relieve congestion and mucus, as well as improve cough drainage. Menthol is also useful in relieving fever and in reducing the quantity of mucus in the body. It can be used in bronchial asthma, as it may reduce wheezing. It may also be used in treating spasms in the respiratory system, such as that of the lung.

Treating sore throats. It is also used to treat sore throats in children. It relives cough and may also provide relief from cold and flu symptoms. It relives inflammation caused in the tonsils, uvula and throat and may also reduce the quantity of mucus in the mouth.

Treating oral malodor. Oral malodor is a common condition affecting both adults and children. It is caused by excessive bacteria growth in the mouth. Mentioned below are the common oral malodor-causing agents. It may be used as a complementary therapy along with other agents.

Menthol oil is also used as a flavoring agent for cough syrups. The following cough syrups are popular for their ability to act as effective menthol treatments: La Syrah, Dram Shop Vitisci, Captain Morgan Dram, Old Joe Punch, & Old Joe Tequila. Menthol can be used as a stand-alone inhalant, an intravenous drug, as a cough suppressant or in combination with other drugs. It has not been studied if menthol reduces the amount of heroin addicts needed to be treated.

It has not been proven that menthol reduces the amount of diarrhea caused by viral enteritis (inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract). No study has been made on the subject of possible hypoglycemia effects. There have been reports that it causes increased sensitivity to the taste of acetone. There is also a rumor that it can cause ringing in the ears. There are also unsubstantiated claims that it can lead to nosebleeds, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Methylated hydroxyanisole (Methylhem ethyl) is the chemical name of the compound menthol. This chemical compound has been shown to have antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogen properties. Antiseptic properties are believed to provide protection against infections by preventing the activation of bacteria. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogen activity. Oral consumption has been shown to have a protective effect against herpes simplex virus, Streptococcus pneumoniae and meningitis. Methylenediamine is used in the treatment of athlete’s foot.

Methylenediamine is not considered as safe as menthol itself. It produces methanol and is a possible carcinogen. It may also lead to an allergic reaction. It is not clear how methylenediamine affects the mucus lining in the lungs. A literature search regarding the effects of this chemical on mucus lining and other aspects does not bring any significant results.

Mention was also made of menthol and its effect on the kidney and liver. Methylated hydroxyanisole has the ability to reduce the solubility of the urine and increase retention of water. This could potentially reduce the excretion of urea and decrease urine output. It could also be responsible for increased proteinuria and thereby aggravate the symptoms of diabetes.

The skin has a wide spectrum of uses and therefore there is a wide spectrum of the application of menthol products. Some people use it for the relief of colds, while others use it to protect their hair and keep it looking shiny. Some people even use it for aromatherapy as it is known to have antioxidant properties. It should however be borne in mind that these claims have not been proven and it is wiser to consult your physician before embarking on using this or any other product.
