Health Anxiety – The Facts

Health anxiety is a persistent and irrational fear of having an illness. It used to be known as hypochondriasis, and is now also known as health anxiety. This condition is characterized by an individual’s fear of anticipating bodily symptoms of disease. The symptoms may include stomach aches, nausea, sweating, restlessness, dizziness, and even pain in the bones and joints.

This type of apprehension is very disabling and frustrating. It can interfere with work, relationships, daily activities, and all aspects of life. These symptoms are often caused by underlying health conditions that are difficult to detect. People who suffer from this condition often fear that they are suffering from a serious illness and will try and avoid seeking treatment.

There are a variety of symptoms that could be the result of health anxiety. These symptoms may include excessive worrying about symptoms. Other symptoms could include feeling faint, nauseous, or grossed out. Some people worry that they are going crazy or having a heart attack. Some even worry that they will die from the illness.

It is important that you learn to identify the symptoms of health anxiety. If you find that you are excessively concerned about some bodily symptoms, you should make note of it. Being sure that you are aware of the signs and symptoms of an illness is very important when you are thinking about getting treatment. Being able to recognize a serious illness from something that is not as serious can help greatly reduce the severity of the health anxiety.

Some health anxiety include being afraid that you will have a serious illness like cancer or diabetes. These people are usually diagnosed with a physical sensation that they believe is a serious illness when, in fact, it is not. For example, some people get serious migraines or they experience muscle spasms that they believe are caused by epilepsy. A physical sensation is something that causes you concern and it should be something that causes you concern. By being able to recognize the physical sensations that you experience, you can make sure that you are not placing your life in danger.

Some people worry that they are going crazy or having a heart attack when there are no physical symptoms present. If you have health anxiety that has no external symptoms, you need to make sure that you take care of yourself properly. By worrying that you are going crazy or having a heart attack, you will not be able to tell the difference between these two thoughts. You need to focus on the here and now and worry about the things that are real and not fake.

One type of treatment for anxiety that is considered to be effective is cognitive behavioral therapy. CBT is a form of psychotherapy that works by challenging the irrational beliefs that cause you to have anxiety and other disorders. Your therapist will work with you to challenge those irrational beliefs and show you how they are not true. This is done through a series of sessions that usually take place over four to six weeks. You will be slowly introduced to the cognitive behavioral therapy sessions until you are completely cured of anxiety.

Health anxiety may also include worry about common illnesses. This can be anything from a fear of having diabetes to a fear of dying from a common illness like cancer. Although these illnesses may be real threats, they do not actually cause you harm. In fact, having these illnesses can be very stressful, and many people with these illnesses find that it is beneficial to learn more about them so they are aware when they are getting stressed out and if they need to take care of themselves better.
